Great product fast deliveryI’m happy with the diverter as it sends all but a fraction of the water to the shower head, but that’s not why I’m writing. As others have pointed out, there are two ways of mounting a diverter. It’s important to select the diverter type that matches the one you are replacing. This unit is a slip-on diverter. It expects to find a smooth copper pipe, which you thread through a sleeve in the diverter. You tighten things with a hex bolt. If you’re replacing a slip-on diverter, installing this unit is a piece of cake. I was replacing a Moen diverter that looked exactly like this unit. However, as I was to learn, it was a threaded diverter. It had no sleeve. Instead it had threads at the end of the unit near the spout. A threaded diverter expects to find threads on the end of the copper pipe. You install it by screwing the diverter onto the pipe. The two types are incompatible. You can’t substitute one for the other. Before buying this diverter, you may care to look and feel underneath your diverter to see if you can find a screw or hex head. If not, try to unscrew the diverter from the wall. It may take a fair amount of force. If it unscrews, you really want a threaded diverter. Check out the Moen 3809BN Tub SpoutThis tub spout is well built and heavy duty. Many available spouts are thin and cheaply made. This is a slip on type and even though my original spout was threaded it was easy to cut off the threads and copper pipe coming out of the wall at the recommended length. Clean up the pipe with sand paper and slide on the new one. Be sure to caulk up around where the pipe enters the shower wall to keep water from finding its way into the wall.In use the spout is easy to close for the shower setting. It stays put and leaks zero water below. My old Price Pfister leaked half the water out of the tub spout instead of pushing it through the shower. The only negative is that this is an expensive spout. Not sure why someone can't make a solid, well built, generic replacement spout for under $30. There are a mountain of cheap ones that are built poorly and function poorly also. Even from the known brand names. Is it a good value if its the same price everywhere? In any case, Home Depot and lowes were out of stock, amazon came through in the clutch. Delivered fine with no scratches. Like all newer Moen brushed nickel finishes, this one matches BUT is different than original BN fixtures. This is a little brighter. But nice finish. It matches the current model BN overflow cover and drain perfectly. Functions well as most spout diverters.Original spout about 15 years old and didn't divert water well, installed new unit works perfectly. We couldn't believe how much water was just going down the drain before. Easy to install pressure fit. This one has the allen wrench screw to tighten to your water pipe and has a longer cut in it so it fit good against the tile wall and could still tighten. Ones at Lowes & Home Depot are crap. They have only a small cut into the spout underneath & so the spout could not fit flush with the tile wall and be tightened to the pipe and be flushed. Makes no sense to me, year 2014 & Lowes & Home Depot don't get it...old spouts have longer cuts underneath for flexibility to fit wider variations and the new ones they sell should too! So we at least found this deeper cut spout on line & installed easy far faters than trying to get Lowes & Home Dpeot crap to work which never could.I was delighted to find this replacement for my 11-year old Monticello spout, which was not diverting water to the shower head properly. I was expecting a lower quality replacement, but was pleasantly surprised when the spout arrived. It is sturdy and has a nice weight to it (not like the cheap, lightweight replacement spouts you find at Home Depot or your local hardware store). The finish matches the existing fixtures perfectly. Took only minutes to install and diverts the water very well. Only a few drops of water escape the spout now. I highly recommend this quality item.Got the wrong part number (professional plumber missed the mark on that) so I had to exchange. This was the perfect color match to what I had. Exchange was clean and quick. Could not be happier. The title says it all.
